How to measure your area

Rectangles & Squares

Measure the longest length and width edge to edge.

Area = Length × Width

Example: 6 m × 4 m = 24 m²

Circles

Measure the full diameter (edge to opposite edge through the centre).

Area = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)2

Use π ≈ 3.142

Irregular Shapes

Break into simple shapes (rectangles/triangles/circles), work out each area, then add together.

Sketch it and label each section—this reduces mistakes.

Depth / Coverage

  • Keep depth consistent across the whole area.
  • Allow extra for edges, curves and containment borders.
  • Soft-fall zones or play areas may require specific depths.

Equestrian Rubber Surface

Calculated area0 m²
New surface (rounded up)0 t
Top-up surface (rounded up)0 t

New surface uses approx. 25 kg/m². Top-up uses approx. 12.5 kg/m².

Equestrian Silica Sand

Calculated area0 m²
Sand @ 100 mm / 4"0 t
Sand @ 150 mm / 6"0 t

Based on typical moist equestrian silica sand density at 100 mm and 150 mm depth.

Important

All calculations are approximations. Real-world usage can vary due to factors outside our control, including:

  • Depth fluctuations across the area (uneven ground, dips/high spots).
  • Irregular shapes, cuts and edge trims leading to off-cuts/waste.
  • Base condition, compaction and settlement over time.
  • Moisture content and normal batch variation of materials.
  • Human measuring error or rounding differences.

If you’re unsure, add a small contingency or contact us for advice. Over estimating by 10% of the above is usually a good idea!

SBR, EPDM and resin are available in 25 KG units only due to manufacturing restrictions. We recommend a minimum area of 5 m² when looking at resin bound kits. All kit measurements are based on an industry-standard 50 mm depth; adjust amounts accordingly.
